Although, they are used interchangeably contemporary and modern do have slight differences. Modern is from a 20th-century design movement. The modern style focused on simple form and function. Contemporary does borrow a little from a modern style which is why they can easily be compared. Since contemporary style means what is popular now in design it is always evolving.
