Master Suite: Before and After Sitting Area

Fratantoni Interior Designers • February 22, 2017

Adding a chair, a sofa or even a bench to your master suite can create a multifunctional space you’ll be happy to retreat to at the end of a busy day. The term “master suite” implies that the space is much more than merely a master bedroom and bath, the master area demands more attention than that. The design of a master suite needs to pay close attention to detail in order to fit the client’s lifestyle and become a retreat.

It’s common for master bedrooms to also include a sitting area. It doesn’t need to be big. A small table and a chair work just fine. This can serve as a quiet area where you can read, contemplate, write, etc. most often, it’s the corner of the room. You can be creative and decorate it any way you want, perhaps with a hanging chair or a tree bookshelf. No matter the size and style of a bedroom, adding a sitting area is an easy and charming way to increase functionality and space. An elegant chaise longue or a pair of overstuffed armchairs instantly create a cozy reading spot or an intimate space to unwind at the end of the day.

Master Suite Sitting Area

Before

Having a space that feels incomplete can leave one feeling stressed in a place that is supposed to be relaxing which is exactly how our clients felt. Above is a photo of our clients master suite before. As you can see the art work, which was too dark for this space, was left leaning against the wall instead of properly hung. In addition there was no source of light besides the window which the homeowner preferred to keep closed for privacy.

Fratantoni Interior Designers to the rescue!

After

In this glamorous, contemporary master suite, dark walls create the perfect backdrop to a white chaise lounge. By using a richly-textured rug we were able to define the sitting area while the fuzzy throw and patterned pillow created a sense of comfort. The large mirror adds to the elegance of the space while also bouncing off light from the second light source we added so that the homeowner could leisurly read while still maintaining their privacy.

We would love to hear what you think about this transformation in the comments below!!

When it comes to luxury interior design, the difference between a beautiful space and an unforgettable one often lies in the details. While scale, layout, and lighting set the stage, texture is what gives a room soul. The art of layering textures transforms interiors into warm, inviting sanctuaries that are as refined as they are livable. At Fratantoni Interior Designers, we believe that texture is the bridge between elegance and comfort, making your home both visually striking and deeply personal.

Luxury interior design is not just about selecting the right furnishings, fabrics, or artwork, it’s about creating a sense of permanence, refinement, and craftsmanship that elevates a home from ordinary to extraordinary. One of the most powerful ways to achieve this transformation is through custom millwork. Whether it’s striking wall paneling, coffered ceilings, or bespoke built-in cabinetry, millwork design defines a space, enhances architecture, and brings unparalleled depth to luxury homes. In this blog, we’ll explore how millwork walls, ceilings, and built ins can reshape your interiors, offering both aesthetic beauty and functional value. If you’ve ever wondered why high end homes feel so distinct and timeless, the answer often lies in the details of architectural millwork.

Every luxury home tells a story - and often, it’s the smallest details that make the biggest impact. Among the many decisions you’ll face when designing your dream home, few are as visually defining as whether to use slabs or tiles for your surfaces. Both offer timeless beauty, durability, and sophistication, yet they speak different design languages. So, how do you decide which is right for you? The truth is, neither option is “better” - it all depends on your home’s architecture, your lifestyle, and your personal vision. At Fratantoni Interior Designers, we help clients navigate this choice with confidence, ensuring every finish reflects the personality of their home.
